Her Mother, My Mother “Her mother never wore a saree, my mother never did not. Her mother drove a Mustang, my mother walked everywhere, even though I hated being picked up last. Her mother never packed her lunches, my mother packed feasts, even though I wanted greasy, stale pizza from the cafeteria like everyone else. Her mother allowed sleepovers, my mother trusted no one, not even friends. Her mother went on business trips, my mother was… my mother, nothing else. Some nights I wished I could swap my mother for hers. She looked skywards at planes growing smaller and smaller, and wished the same.”

In 2025, Mother's Day will be observed on Sunday, May 11. It is celebrated every year on the second Sunday of May in many countries, including the United States, India, Australia, and several parts of Europe. This developed into Mothering Sunday in Britain, where it continued into modern times till it was replaced by Mother's Day on May 12, 1907, when Philadelphia resident Anna Jarvis hosted a Mother's Day Service of Worship in the church of Grafton, West Virginia, in honour of her late mother.
